This is what I ended up doing and its working great. Like another reviewer stated (wish I would have listed) its actually easier to find a big piece of foam to cut to size and wrap around your handlebar. Works well for what it is however, there is a catch. You have to take the band off the watch to clip it in.
Works great and mounts easily. I have these mounted on three bikes so that I can move my Garmin 305 between the bikes.
And even though my elbow has a nasty scrape from the sandstone, the Garmin looks as good as ever. 3 hours later the GPS is still there and the Quick Release did its job even through a rather rough crash. I would definitely recommend this Quick Release to anyone wanting to attach their Forerunner 205/305 to their bikes. I finished the slickrock trail in Moab, Utah this past weekend and wanted to measure my progress with my Forerunner 205. I was a little apprehensive about taking my GPS because of the roughness of the trail and the possibility of my Garmin popping out and either breaking or getting lost.
The only down side is you MUST make sure the watch is firmly snapped in the craddle or it will go flying when you hit the first big bump. Now able to mount my Garmin on the bar vs. my wrist and having to let go of the bar to see exactly how slow I'm going or how lost I am.
The Garmin can handle and records separate for all three bikes.I jury-rigged it so it sits on the stem and it works well - I crossed the "zippies" versus through the slots where you would normally mount it on the bar. I like this idea. The garmin is a tough litle bugger and took the "hit" though.Buy it. I like it better on the stem.ONLY ONE CAUTION - if you do what I did and stem-mount it, make sure that the metal watch stems sit tight inside the end clips when you put it on the bike or you'll "launch" the garmin (like I did the first time I tried it) when you hit a bump in the road or a seam in the pavement. Now my Forerunner 305 can be used both on the bike and (with the wrist adaptor I also purchased) when I run. I bought three - one for the road-bike, one for the mountain bike, and one for the tri-bike.
